This web site is affiliated with National Academic Press and features titles published by this scholarly press.

One of the primary objectives of National Academic Press, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, is the dissemination of knowledge about African Americans from a historical and contemporary perspective primarily, but not exclusively, in the American context.

Among the titles which fit this category, transcending national boundaries, is "Relations Between Africans and African Americans: Misconceptions, Myths and Realities," written by Godfrey Mwakikagile, a Tanzanian writer. It is a comprehensive study that incorporates into its analysis experiences of African Americans in Africa. And we expect to feature more books of this nature, including one exclusively devoted to what African Americans have experienced in different African countries through the years. The focus is on black Africa, the primary destination of African Americans.

Some of the other books that are going to be published by National Academic Press and which are going to be featured here address themes relevant to contemporary black American experience, but without excluding historical perspectives even if the primary focus is contemporary issues.

The works dealing with these subjects include "Resistance to Racial Equality: Options for Black America"; and "Conservatives and Black America," a book that also focuses on America's shift to the right in national politics, especially since the early eighties when Ronald Reagan, a rightwing conservative and admirer of Barry Goldwater, was elected president of the United States.

Some of the material featured here includes excerpts from Godfrey Mwakikagile, "Relations Between Africans and African Americans: Misconceptions, Myths and Realities" (Grand Rapids, Michigan: National Academic Press, 2005). See side bar.
